Project titled: “Awareness of Farmers for the New Age of Consumption that Challenges Traditional Food Production Systems (BELEROFONT)” – funded by NASRI

There is an urgent need for a significant change in the Albanian food production system to make agriculture more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable. Achieving such a transition of the food system is extremely difficult because we are dealing with a problem characterized by the lack of a final and explicit solution. BELEROFONT wants to make a difference in the transitions of food production systems, identifying which factors underlie dependencies or non-changes in current unsustainable food production systems and showing how these can be overcome. The project aims to improve the sustainability of agriculture by promoting practices in food production systems that are more environmentally friendly, economically sustainable and suitable for farmers. BELEROFONT will identify which factors support the path to sustainable agricultural systems and the barriers in current systems demonstrating how they can be overcome. The innovation of BELEROFONT lies in the combination of experimental methods with a systemic thinking approach, considering the entire agri-food system as an influence on farmers’ decisions. The innovative combination of quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of methods is our important methodological and scientific contribution to more research based on the systemic hermeneutic approach.

Project period: September 2023- July 2024
