Trends in the development of philanthropic activity in the country in coping with the pandemic situation

On the occasion of Philanthropy Week, a discussion forum was held today at the Mediterranean University of Albania with representatives of Partners Albania for Change and Development, Sigal Uniqua Group Austria, Credins Bank. Solidarity of individuals and civil society in helping communities and citizens most exposed to emergencies such as the November 2019 earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic, encouraging and strengthening cooperation in similar situations, were the focus of this meeting. Also discussed were the campaigns and practices undertaken to help citizens and communities most exposed to emergency situations such as the pandemic period we are going through. The Rector of UMSH, Adrian Civici, praised this forum, emphasizing that in the auditoriums of the University, philanthropy should be discussed as widely as possible as an educational and formative process. "This is in order for these auditors to become the bearers of this very human action and very necessary for a more equal society where human dignity is not affected by the impossibility of living conditions," said Civici. The Director of Master Programs, Orkida Ilollari, who moderated this forum, underlined that through social scholarships, Mediterranean University has cultivated a philanthropic spirit and social responsibility by giving the opportunity to dozens of young people in economic difficulties to attend higher education. Kostandina Këruti, Program Manager, Partners Albania for Change and Development told the students about the initiatives taken to promote philanthropy, underlining that philanthropy week aims to raise awareness of philanthropic activity in the country by bringing to the attention of the public, individuals, civil society organizations and businesses that have made or continue to make a significant contribution to improving the quality of life in the society in which we live. Avni Ponari, General Manager of SIGAL UNIQA Group AUSTRIA, one of the businesses that has shown extraordinary solidarity with people in need over the years, listed some of the donations given during last year's earthquake and pandemic.
