The Mediterranean University of Albania gives the title "Honoris Causa" to the former President of Croatia.

 

Today the Mediterranean University of Albania awarded the title "Honors Causa", Mr. Ivo Josipovic, former President of Croatia in the period 2010-2015, a multidimensional personality with great contributions in politics, jurisprudence, and music.

The ceremony was attended by two former Presidents of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Alfred Moisiu and Mr. Bujar Nishani, the current President of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Ilir Meta, the former Speaker of the Assembly, Gramoz Ruci, the Head of the Academy of Sciences, Skënder Gjinushi as well as well-known politicians: Mimi Kodheli , Damian Gjiknuri ,and ambassadors. The ceremony was opened by the Rector of the Mediterranean University of Albania, Adrian Civici, who emphasized that during his presidency, The Croatian President has repeatedly insisted on the topic of reconciliation and cooperation in the Western Balkans.

The founder of the Mediterranean University of Albania, Academician Prof. Dr. Anastas Angjeli, at the same time the title recommender, praised the figure of the former president of Croatia. "Ivo Josipovic”

He said; “I am very honored to have the opportunity to speak in front of you today on this noteworthy event of the recognition of the prominent Croatian composer, Prof. Ivo Josipovic with the title of doctor "Honoris Causa" from the Mediterranean University of Albania.It is a special honor for me, on behalf of the Mediterranean University of Albania, to be the evaluator and recommender for the award of the title Doctor Honoris Causa to an eminent personality of a friendly country like Croatia; an honored public intellectual, lawyer, and professor: President of the Republic of Croatia during the period 2010 – 2015, a Europeanist in spirit, mind, and deeds; an outstanding composer, whose works have already crossed the borders of his country and our Balkan region which have been welcomed and appreciated internationally as well as worldwide musicians perform them; My special friend, Mr. Ivo Josipović.Ivo Josipović is the best example of an engaged intellectual, artist, and politician. An intellectual, who does not consider himself detached from the community but an integral part of it. An artist, who doesn’t survey the others from the zenith of his achievements but helps them enhance with their own efforts towards the peak. A politician, whose mission in life is to serve the common people by staying faithful to his principles, who considers politics a struggle for the common good, in no way for private interests.

 Ivo Josipovic graduated from the University of Zagreb in Law and studied at the Max-Planck Institute in Freiburg and Hamburg, the Institute of Criminology in Graz, Yale University, etc.He continues to contribute to the University of Zagreb, as a Professor for criminal procedure law, international criminal law, and misdemeanor law. Throughout his long academic career, which still continues, he has published nationally and internationally a number of books and scientific articles. He has lectured at many prestigious universities such as the University of Graz and the University of Vienna in Austria, Yale University in the United States, University of Rome in Italy, the University of Belgrade in Serbia, London School of Economics in the United Kingdom, the University of Sarajevo in Bosnia Herzegovina, the University of Split and the University of Osijek in Croatia, etc. He was a member of the Institute of Legal Sciences, Head of the Department of Criminal Procedure, and Head of the Department of Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb. During his career path, he has given his scientific contribution to a number of commissions and public boards both in Croatia and internationally.
