The promotion of the book Antiquity and Modernity of the Economic Thought of Ancient Greece by the well-known thinker Aristotel Pano

The promotion of the book Antiquity and Modernity of the Economic Thought of Ancient Greece, written by Prof. Dr. Aristotel Pano and enriched with the critical reflections by Academician Prof. Dr. Anastas Angeli, took place in the premises of the Mediterranean University of Albania.

This book, neatly written by one of the most well-known Albanian thinkers and economists of the 20th and 21st centuries, acquaints us with the centuries-old legacy of critical thinking, the works of the authors of Ancient Greece and their analyses. Professor Pano, along with his historical associate and student, Professor Angjeli, emphasize through this book the importance of critical thinking and inspire and challenge today’s critics and thinkers. Part of the panel were also the author's son, Prof. Nikollaq Pano, as well as the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr Gent Sejko, a former student of the author.

“Our professor Aristotel Pano enables us to understand that the reflections of the past centuries still teach us about monetary policy because they provide knowledge on the nature and function of money, the possible dangers of excessive monetary expansion and the ethics of monetary policy,” the Governor said in his speech. He also added that studying the philosophy discussed in this book will help the young readers to gain a deeper understanding of the role of money in the economy, and policymakers to make more informed decisions about monetary policy. “Aristotel Pano has been one of the most elite experts and advisors of our central bank since its establishment. Unfortunately, last year the professor passed away, but the work of this prolific author is now and will remain in the future a real institution of creativity; besides, he still reaches readers through new works,” the Governor pointed out.

In his speech, Academician Prof. Dr. Anastas Angjeli said that in ancient times both Plato and Aristotle explained both the expansion and the narrowing of the market as related to the wars between the cities of the Greek states. “Nowadays, these same phenomena condition the economic prosperity. The war in the world, the energy crisis, the crisis of raw materials, inflation and economic stagnation, are obvious facts of a modern history of economic interests in the middle of Europe. I would like to emphasize that “History repeats itself” as a form of thought and judgment to remember concepts, mechanisms and phenomena, which are transformed in all fields of social sciences,” Mr Angjeli said in his speech. The book was also praised by the Rector of MUA, Mr Adrian Civici, and its Vice-Rector, Mr Pëparim Kabo. The author's son, Mr Nikollaq Pano, thanked the reviewers for their critical appraisals.
