The well-known academician Anastas Angjeli promotes his new book "Bretton Woods Institutions and Albania"

The new book by the renowned Academician, Prof. Dr. Anastas Angjeli, titled "Bretton Woods Institutions and Albania," was presented in a special ceremony at the Bank of Albania. This book provides a historical overview of the events, causes, and economic theories that led to the establishment of these institutions. They were founded on three fundamental principles aimed at maintaining economic and financial stability. The creation of these institutions focused on the establishment and strengthening of democratic frameworks, ensuring economic and financial stability, and enabling the free movement of goods, services, capital, and ideas. Additionally, they aimed to provide sufficient financial support for recovery from crises and to promote long-term economic development.

During the ceremony, Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences Academician Vasil Tole, Rector of the Mediterranean University of Albania Adrian Civici, and Vice-Rector Nikollaq Pano all spoke highly of the book.

"What makes this book special is that the author views all three institutions as projections of a political and humanitarian vision aimed at enhancing stability and development at the global level. The book organizes and logically presents the economic, financial, and political relationships that led to the creation of the current world order and the challenges it faces," said the Governor of the Bank of Albania. He further noted that the narrative presented in Professor Angjeli's analysis repeatedly demonstrates that behind the significant crises, failures, and hardships of the past century lies our collective ignorance as a society, often compounded by the obstinacy of politics regarding the lessons imparted by economists. Therefore, recognizing and understanding the principles embodied in the economic and financial identities that shape the policies of these institutions provides a pathway to avoid repeating past mistakes, especially as we face numerous uncertainties in the future.

“The book "Bretton Woods Institutions and Albania" (IMF, WB, GATT-WTO) represents a significant contribution to the analysis of this cooperation, exploring its effects on Albania's transition and reality, as well as the achievements and challenges encountered during this period. It discusses the contributions of these institutions to policymaking and decision-making regarding essential financial, monetary, economic, and commercial developments,” said Prof. Dr. Adrian Civici. He noted that this publication holds value not only in its theoretical and historical dimensions but, more importantly, in its concrete implications for many crucial developments in both Albanian and regional contexts, particularly in light of the successful conclusion of the long and challenging transition process and the path toward Albania's European integration.

"The author illustrates that sustainable development requires learning to live within the limits of one planet, in a fair and dignified manner for all, without exhausting the natural systems from which we derive resources and without exceeding their capacity to absorb waste and debris generated by our activities. This book fills a significant gap in both historical and economic literature in Albania, making a valuable contribution to its enrichment," stated Prof. Dr. Nikollaq Pano.

Academician Vasil Tole praised the book as an extension of the author's previous works, adding value to the best economic thought in Albania. At the end of the ceremony, the author himself shared insights about the specific circumstances surrounding the writing of this book, expressed gratitude to those present, and emphasized that the book will be beneficial not only for students but also for the general public.
