Within the framework of the opening session of the “World Jurist Association – Albania 2026,” a solemn ceremony for the awarding of the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” by several of the country’s leading universities was held in Tirana. The event brought together the Mediterranean University of Albania, the University of Tirana, the Polytechnic University of Tirana, and the University of Arts, which honored well-known national and international figures for their contributions to academia, justice, and public life.

The ceremony was also attended by the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, as well as representatives of state institutions, academia, diplomacy, and international organizations.
The Mediterranean University of Albania conferred the high academic title “Doctor Honoris Causa” upon Dr. Andi Hoxhaj, an internationally recognized jurist and academic, and lecturer at King’s College London, United Kingdom.

This distinction was awarded to Dr. Hoxhaj with the following motivation:
“For his contribution to the field of law and his commitment to upholding the principles of the rule of law and civil rights; for his public and academic activity in the United Kingdom and the Western Balkans; for his active role in addressing issues of public interest related to Albanian society and the diaspora; as well as for his contribution and engagement in strengthening relations between Albania and the United Kingdom, including his contribution to bilateral institutional and academic dialogue, and for promoting the role of the Albanian diaspora in the democratic development and Euro-Atlantic integration of the region.”

In his speech, the President of the Mediterranean University of Albania, Academician Prof. Dr. Anastas Angjeli, praised the figure and contribution of Dr. Hoxhaj as a model of a modern academic engaged in issues of democracy, the rule of law, and European integration.
“The figure of Dr. Hoxhaj represents the model of a modern and engaged academic. He has built a well-established international profile, contributing to prestigious institutions and to the global debate on the rule of law, democratic governance, and European integration processes,” – stated Prof. Dr. Anastas Angjeli.
He also emphasized the importance of international academic cooperation and the role that Dr. Hoxhaj has played in strengthening communication bridges between universities and institutions in the United Kingdom and Albania.
“For the Mediterranean University of Albania, an institution founded on internationalization, the pursuit of truth through scientific knowledge, and the building of bridges of intercultural communication, Dr. Hoxhaj represents a strategic partner and a source of inspiration,” – declared President Angjeli.
