Mediterranean University of Albania celebrates December 18, World Arabic Language Day

Mediterranean University of Albania, Abdulaziz Saud Albatain Chair for Arabic Language and Culture organized, on the occasion of December 18, World Arabic Language Day, a roundtable discussion with the Writer and Professor Ylljet Alickaj. The event was organized in the library of UMSH. Ylljet Alickaj is the Albanian writer currently most translated into Arabic, who has participated in the Cairo and Riyadh International Book Fairs as well.

In his opening speech, the Director of the Abdulaziz Saud Albatain Center for Arabic Language and Culture, Professor Arben Cici, spoke about this historic date, highlighting the importance of preserving and spreading the Arabic language and its role in Albania as a bridge of cooperation of culture, tradition and friendship between the Albanian and Arab heritage. This role, he underlined, has been appreciated by the UN, UNESCO, and other organizations, especially in these days when peoples and societies need to exchange values ??and shared history.

In his speech, the Rector of UMSH, Prof. Dr. Adrian Civici, underlined the role of the Abdulaziz Saud Albatain Center for Arabic Language and Culture at UMSH, especially the Arabic language course and its activities organized in this framework. The Arabic language, he empasized, remains not only a part of history but also a project for the future of a more peaceful, more interactive and collaborative world between nations and peoples.

The writer and professor Ylljet Alicka, described the extraordinary impressions and memories from his visits to the International Book Fairs in Cairo and Riyadh, as well as the hospitality and appreciation of his books by the Arab media and readers as well. Writer Alicka underlined the fact of the antiquity, spread and richness of the Arabic language as well as its heritage, not only in Arab countries but throughout the world. The large participation of world-renowned writers in the book fairs of Arab countries is proof of this valuable Arab and world wealth, he concluded his impressions.

Writer Alicka's speech was followed with great interest and was accompanied by numerous questions and comments from professors and students who participated in this activity, especially the students of the Arabic language and culture course.

In his closing remarks, Professor Cici, after thanking the attendees, once again underlined the determination and dedication to preserve and spread the Arabic language and culture at the Mediterranean University of Albania thanks to the intensive activity of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Center for “Arabic Language and Culture” as well as the valuable support of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation for the benefit of UMSh students and professors and not only.

At the end of the activity, the techer of the Arabic language, Fatbardh Shega, read pieces of the Arabic translations of the book of the writer Ylljet Alicka.
